“I have the best seat in the house,” Dave Grohl exclaimed from his custom-made rock throne to the thousands in attendance at Citi Field on July 16th.  Playing the second of a two-show stint at the home of the Mets, Foo Fighters proved once again why they have been one of the top bands for the past twenty years.  Opening with “Everlong”, Foo played hit after hit after hit, whipping the already pumped crowd into a rock n’ roll frenzy.  Though Grohl, with his leg still in a cast, sat in his well-earned throne for most of the show, he rocked harder than any front man without broken limbs would. (Editor’s note:  I am firmly convinced Dave was seat belted in, to keep him from leaping from his chair.)

Along with their bigger hits like “Monkey Wrench”, “My Hero”, “All My Life” and “Learn To Fly”, Foo worked in an array of cover songs including Queen’s “Under Pressure” with drummer Taylor Hawkins taking the vocal reigns and Grohl singing back up.  Snippets of Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak”, Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out”, and Kiss’ “Detroit Rock City” were also part of the band’s homage to their classic rock inspirations.  Special guests Darryl Jenifer and Dr. Know of Bad Brains joined Foo for two epic performances of “How Low Can a Punk Get” and “The Regulator.”

There aren’t true rock n’ roll bands out there that can incorporate the energy of punk and heavy metal, the harmony of classic rock and beats that make you dance your ass off, like the Foo Fighters can do.  When you go to a Foo show, you will leave exhausted, voiceless, sweaty, a smile never leaving your face.  You will wake up with muscle aches, a pounding headache and a sore throat; and it will be the best feeling in the world.  Foo Fighters, you’re doing it right.
