There are numerous tribute bands for every band/artist out there. Some might be a bit laughable and some give you the satisfaction of the band/artist’s performance when you’re unable to see that band/artist. Big Shot, the Billy Joel tribute, is one of the more satisfactory and very respectable tribute bands. Fronted by Michael DelGuidice, Big Shot has been a Long Island staple for over ten years.
Michael DelGuidice is impressive as he fronts Big Shot, performing with the same passion as his idol, Billy Joel. He’s so impressive, in fact, that he was hand-picked by Joel to join his touring band as back-up vocalist and acoustic guitar player two years ago; a dream come true for DelGuidice. Though, the dream doesn’t end there. On August 4th, Billy Joel played the final show at Nassau Coliseum, helping to properly close it’s doors after 43 years. Michael was tapped to open the show, performing his solo work.
Not leaving Long Islanders behind, Michael still plays venues all around the island with Big Shot, packing out places like The Paramount; when he’s not playing one of the historical shows at Madison Square Garden, where Joel’s residency shows continue to sell out. Where most of us can only fantasize about sharing the stage with our musical idols, Michael DelGuidice is living his fantasy.
