Three days of heavy metal and hard rock bands plus a demolition derby every evening? The 2016 Rock’N Derby festival’s inaugural event took place from May 20-22 at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds in Schaghticoke, N.Y. not far from Albany, N.Y. (And no, most of us at the festival couldn’t pronounce the town’s name correctly, think ‘Skat-icoke’)
Featuring incredible performances by: Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, Ghost, Halestorm, Megadeth, Sixx: A.M., Anthrax, Pop Evil, All that Remains, and a whole lot more, this event proved to be a weekend to remember. The weather was beautiful most of the time. A major thunderstorm threatened to shut down the Ghost performance on Sunday but despite some minor drizzling and occasional 30mph wind gusts, the set went on. Perhaps the band summoned some help?
It was a memorable three-day camping concert event for some and a hotel party weekend for others with a packed house every night at the fairgrounds. The lineup was incredible with over 50 bands playing the weekend on three separate stages. The festival even had a wrestling ring. What more could you ask for?
