When the Newsboys United stopped by South Bend, IN earlier this month, it was more than a concert, it was a religious experience. The band held church and we sang in the choir. The Newsboys United features former D.C. Talk vocalist, Michael Tait, with long-time members Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein and Jody Davis but also features a reunion with original lead vocalist, Peter Furler and bassist Phil Joel.
The 3 hour performance opened with the newer line-up performing “Born Again” and other recent hits like “Live with Abandon” and “He Reigns” before trading places with Furler and Joel to play some classic hits. The show included a video presentation of the band’s work with sponsoring a child through Childfund International and an invitation to the crowd to join them in the good work. The band even offered a meet and greet for those who joined the cause.
The final set included an electrifying laser beam, spinning drum set filled performance with Michael Tait on vocals and even a throwback to D.C. Talk with Jesus Freak. Tait took on the roll of pastor for a spell and preached to the crowd the importance of being thankful before launching in to the theme song of 2014 theatrical hit God’s Not Dead. The entire band took the stage together to perform the final song of the evening, “The Cross Has the Final Word.”
To say the Newsboys United rocked the crowd would be an understatement. This was more than a show, this was an experience. There are still plenty of dates left on this tour, so check them them out here, and get your ticket to one of the best shows of the year.
