Cheap Trick played the NYCB Theatre at Westbury in Westbury, New York On March 2nd. Two things fans can always count on: Rick Nielsen’s signature custom made guitars, and their ears ringing all the way home.
Robin Zander’s voice is still quite strong as he hits every note perfectly. The fans enjoyed the onstage antics of Rick Nielsen, who continually throws his guitar picks out into the crowd; at several points, taking from a bucket and tossing out handfuls. The onstage energy of this band is electrifying as they opened the set with “Hello There”. Then played back to back songs with little interruption, including favorites “The Flame”, “I Want You To Want Me”, “Dream Police” and “Surrender”, closing with “Goodnight Now”.
The audience, made up of longtime fans that now bring their children (and maybe grandchildren) to see the band, creating one big happy sing along. Cheap Trick also played a few cover songs including “Ain’t That a Shame” (Fats Domino) and “The In Crowd” (Dobie Gray) adding their own special touch to these tunes.
The band consists of three of the original founding members, Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen and Tom Pertersson, and Dax Nielsen on drums (Rick’s son) and Robin Taylor Zander on Guitar/Keyboard (Robin’s son).
